Jordan’s Furniture store locations and its Taunton distribution center collected new and like-new clothes and shoes for children, ages infant to 12 years old, from July 1 to Aug. 31. All donations will go to children in homeless or low-income situations through partnering social services agencies. It is the fourth year for the partnership between the retailer and organization.
“With so many kids right here in our communities who are in need, we are thrilled to be able to deliver, literally, a truck filled with donations to the Cradles to Crayons giving factory so that these young students are ready to head back to school,” said Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan’s Furniture.
Tatelman says the donations from Jordan’s Furniture customers come at a crucial time of year when many school items have already been distributed.
“It means a lot to us that this collaboration with Cradles to Crayons is impactful to the children throughout the state,” Tatelman said. “We are proud to be a partner.”
Brighton, Mass.-based Cradles to Crayons was founded in 2002 and provides for children from birth through age 12 living in homeless or low-income situations for home, school and play. Items are distributed through social service agencies such as MSPCC, Horizons for Homeless Children and Head Start Programs.
“When the Jordan’s Furniture truck arrives every year, I feel incredible excitement and appreciation,” said Sharon Reilly, executive director of Cradles to Crayons.
Reilly says the efforts of Jordan’s Furniture and its customers assure her that they can successfully meet the needs of thousands of children who rely on Cradles to Crayons for clothing, shoes and books.
“When I see countless boxes overflowing with donations, I see children smiling and parents breathing a sigh of relief,” Reilly said. “Because I understand the financial and emotional tolls of poverty. This partnership is inspiring, remarkable and makes a direct impact on helping families. On behalf of Cradles to Crayons and the children we serve, I am grateful for their support.”
