Ikea Starts Construction in Burbank, Calif.

Ikea has broken ground on its 456,000-square-foot store in Burbank, Calif.

The new store will replace a 242,000-square-foot store that sits less than a mile away. Construction at the new store is expected to be completed and the store opened in the spring of 2017.

The new store will follow the retailer’s consistent store design and will likely include a solar energy system similar to the one at the current Burbank store.

“We are pleased to be breaking ground on our commitment to extend our Burbank presence with a new, larger and updated store that will provide an improved experience for our many loyal customers currently shopping at IKEA Burbank,” said Lars Petersson, Ikea U.S. president. “This new IKEA Burbank store also will help us introduce the latest version of the unique Ikea concept to Southern Californians who value good design, good function and affordable prices, but have not yet had the chance to visit an Ikea store.”
