San Francisco-based Williams-Sonoma (NYSE: WSM), a specialty retailer of products for the kitchen and home, has launched its campaign to benefit the national nonprofit No Kid Hungry, which aims to ensure children start the day with a nutritious breakfast.
Events begin Saturday, Sept. 12, at Williams-Sonoma stores with a kids’ cookie decorating class, followed by a bake sale with proceeds going directly to No Kid Hungry. Stores will also host a back-to-school themed class the following Saturday, Sept. 19, in partnership with American Girl. The class costs $30 per child with 20 percent of proceeds benefitting No Kid Hungry.
Williams-Sonoma has raised nearly $1 million for No Kid Hungry during the past four years through in-store fundraising, events and proceeds from exclusive products.
“In this country, one out of every five children struggles with hunger,” said Janet Hayes, president of Williams-Sonoma. “This is a staggering statistic that has inspired me to rally our brand to support No Kid Hungry’s work to make sure all kids have the healthy food they need every day.”
Williams-Sonoma’s goal is to raise $500,000 this September, nearly doubling its fundraising goal from last year. Additionally, its Tools for Change program returns, including a kid’s knife, cookie mix, cupcake liner set and celebrity-designed spatulas, with 30 percent of the retail price going to No Kid Hungry.
