FastFact: Housing Future Bright
August 17,
2015 by in Economic News, Industry
We are on the cusp of seeing the largest living generation enter the home buying market.
By the end of the year, the millennials will be the largest living generation. Currently, the first millennials are just reaching the traditional home buying age range (30-34). Most millennials are still in college or renting their first apartments, but the shift over the next 10 years will see more and more entering the market for homes.
In 2025, the vast majority of millennials will be between 30 and 45, the age when they are either buying their first home or looking to upgrade.
This bodes well for the housing market, but also for the furniture industry itself. With more people buying homes, we should see a sizable increase in the number of millennials buying furniture. But as with any generation, Gen Y brings with it a new set of ideals and a new way of thinking.
