OSHA Cites Ashley Furniture Again

2015 by in Industry, Legal
OSHA issued citations Tuesday against the Arcadia, Wis., company alleging two violations for failing to protect workers from machinery operating parts and neglecting to report a hospitalization within 24 hours. OSHA has proposed penalties of $83,200 for the accident.
The machine involved in the incident is the same type of machine involved in an similar accident in January with another employee.
This is the second time this year that Ashley has been cited by OSHA for workplace safety violations. In January, OSHA issued citations and proposed penalties of $1.766 million.
Ashley has contested those citations, and the company has 15 business days to either comply, request an informal conference with an OSHA representative or contest the findings.
"Workers at Ashley Furniture cannot count on their company to do what's right when it comes to safety,” said Mark Hysell, OSHA’s area director in Eau Claire, Wis. “These workers are at risk because this company is intentionally and willfully disregarding OSHA standards and requirements.”
