FastFact: Consumers Spend More on TVs since 2000

Since 2000, Televisions have seen the most growth of the three major home consumer products of furniture, major appliances and televisions.

The category has recorded a stunning 141 percent growth, largely due to the innovations in the consumer electronics industry over the past two decades.  This growth has resulted in the television industry jumping from 13.1 percent of the overall home furnishings sales to around 25.5 percent.

However, most of that growth came before or during the recession. Since the peak of the recession in 2009, furniture has outgrown the other home furnishings sectors. Furniture sales have grown nearly 20 percent since 2009, as compared to 9 percent for appliances and 4 percent for televisions.
