Canadian furniture retailer Leon’s (LNF.TO) has upgraded its e-commerce website so that it is responsive across all browsers and devices.
The upgrades in the first month have delivered a 200 percent increase in smartphone sales and an 86 percent increase in sales from tablets, according to Blueport Commerce, the vendor who worked with the retailer.
“We are thrilled with the results,” said Terry Leon, Leon’s CEO. “Our website replatforming ties in with our larger corporate initiatives to make shopping Leon’s easy and seamless, whether our shoppers are in our stores or online, regardless of which device they prefer. Partnering with Blueport, with their understanding of our business and the technology to optimize it, continues to move us towards our goal of becoming Canada’s largest online provider of furniture, major appliances, home electronics, mattresses and home furnishings.”
The improved website design features enhanced performance to optimize the mobile shopping experience. Other enhancements include predictive search with images to allow shoppers to find items by SKU, product name, and popularity as well as through general search terms; a wish list feature; and better integration with social media channels.
“Mobile devices are playing a greater role in the way people shop every day,” said Carl Prindle, Blueport Commerce, president and CEO. “Over 80 percent of furniture purchases are influenced by the Internet, and half of all Internet searches for furniture happen on smartphones. Consumers expect to browse and shop as conveniently on their mobile devices as they do on their desktops, particularly in categories like furniture where store visits play such an important role.”
