Mattress Firm 1Q Sales Climb 68.7%

Bedding retailer Mattress Firm (NASDAQ: MFRM)  posted net income of $5.5 million for the first quarter ended May 5, down from net income of $7.7 million in the first quarter of last year.


Net sales for the first quarter were $562.6 million climbing 68.7 percent over sales of $333.5 million for the same quarter last year.

"We are pleased our dedicated organization delivered 68.7% net sales growth and our seventh consecutive quarter of positive comparable-store sales, as we continue to navigate a period of extraordinary integration of multiple acquisitions," said Steve Stagner, Mattress Firm's CEO. 

During the quarter, the retailer opened 78 stores and closed nine giving the retailer 2,163 company-owned stores at the end of the quarter.
