Valdese Weavers Celebrating 100 Years

Fabric supplier Valdese Weavers is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
“All of us at Valdese Weavers have an extraordinary opportunity to celebrate this milestone,” said Mike Shelton, president and CEO. “And to be at the helm of a company in this position is a privilege, and a responsibility to ensure the organization thrives for another century.”
The observance begins with the unveiling of a new company logo, and the renovation of the company’s High Point showrooms, with all brands now showing on the 6th floor of Market Square Towers. In the coming months a number celebrations will follow, from employee events to town celebrations, exhibits and the creation of an anniversary book.
“It’s important to document the legacy of Valdese Weavers,” Shelton said. “The company boasts a powerful story from its roots as an immigrant startup to a leading role in the decorative textiles industry.”
Valdese Weavers began in 1915 as the Waldensian Swiss Embroidery Company, a lace and embroidery manufacturer developed by Italian immigrants. Twenty years later, Harley Shuford purchased the company and changed its name to Valdese Weavers Inc., introducing jacquard woven fabrics to the company’s product line.
