Shades of Light to Build Headquarters, DC

Lighting and home décor retailer Shades of Light is building a new headquarters and distribution facility in Midlothian, Va.

The project is scheduled for completion by December 2015.

The 83,162-square-foot facility will include distribution, production and office space. The project also includes an adjacent undeveloped site that can accommodate an additional 27,000 square feet to accommodate the retailer’s future growth.

Shades of Light is currently operating out of three separate locations that it plans to consolidate at the new facility.  About 65 of the company's 80 employees will work at the Midlothian facility. The company has no plans to relocate either of its Richmond showrooms from their current locations.

Owners Bryan Johnson and Chris Menasco said the company’s sales have continued to grow since they acquired the retailer in 2011.

“We are rapidly outgrowing our current distribution center and corporate office and found it necessary to consolidate into one larger facility to streamline our operations and allow for continued growth,” the duo said.
