Consumer Sentiment Drops to 7-Month Low

Consumer sentiment has hit a seven-month low this month, according to the University of Michigan

According to the university’s consumer sentiment index, the May reading was 88.6, compared with a final April level of 95.9.

The drop could signal that consumers are concerned about the economy and their personal finances. During the year leading up to the recession, the consumer sentiment gauge averaged 86.9. Earlier this year, the index hit its highest level since 2004.
