U.S. retail sales were flat in April as shoppers remained tight-fisted on their money.
Retail sales for the month, minus automobile and gasoline sales, rose a mere 0.2 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
The latest figures were not positive for furniture retailers. Sales at home furnishings stores dropped 0.9 percent while electronics stores posted a 0.4 percent decline.
Internet retailers, drug stores and companies selling music, books and sporting goods posted 0.8 percent increase in sales for April. Restaurants had a 0.7 percent gain, and sales at home improvement stores climbed 0.3 percent.
