FastFact: Industry Continues Growth in 1Q

This week we examine quarterly sales for the furniture and bedding industry, combined, for the first quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2015.
In the first quarter of 2015, the furniture industry maintained consistent growth with a 7.7 percent increase over the same quarter in 2014.
The increase yielded a sales volume, including sales of mattresses and furniture, of $22.7 billion. The last quarter of last year saw a slight increase of 0.75 percent.
Take out mattress sales and furniture increased 7.2 percent to $19.2 billion in the first quarter of 2015, but saw a decrease of 1.68 percent in in the previous quarter.
Bedding saw its fourth quarter slump, but grew 10.2 percent in the next quarter. Sales for the category reached $3.48 billion in the first quarter of 2015, a comparison increase of 10.2 percent from last year in the same quarter $3.15 billion.
