BDI Participates in Design on a Dime Benefit

BDI is participating in Housing Works’ 11th annual Design on a Dime benefit.

The opening reception, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. today at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City, will feature a number of donated items from BDI available for purchase with all proceeds benefitting Housing Works’ newest housing development, the Hull Street Residence.

Items available include the Corridor Bar, Phase Shelf, Stream Console, Spyro Frosted Mirror, Bink (in Wasabi and Salt), Continuum and the Eileen 5156.

Hull Street is a housing development project that will transform a vacant 6,000-square-foot lot, into a safe home for 26 single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS. The residence will incorporate sustainable design and construction techniques, including the use of no-VOC paint, energy star appliances, LED lighting, tiles made from recycled material, and FSC-certified wood.

“As evidenced by the impressive list of internationally-recognized designers and brands, BDI is not alone in its support for Housing Works and the great and necessary services it provides,” said Bill Becker, design director and CEO. “It’s important to us to not just create beautiful and innovative designs, but to use our skills and talents to make an impact in the community. Design on a Dime is a critical annual event that helps many individuals and families who wouldn’t get this chance otherwise, and we are honored to be a part of this cause.”

Since 2005, Design on a Dime has served as an integral fundraiser to sustain Housing Works’ services, raising more than $7 million in support of program initiatives to empower the lives of individuals living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

In addition to the opening night reception, Design on a Dime shopping continues with a free public designer sale, Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
