Furniture Orders Increase 7%

The year 2015 started off with a bang for the furniture suppliers who posted a 7-percent increase in orders in January over last year, according to High Point accounting firm Smith Leonard

Shipments for the month were up 10 percent over the same month last year.

The Furniture Insights report said new orders were up for 70 percent of the survey’s participants while shipments were up for about 63 percent of the participants.

“While some participants were down, we saw some very nice double-digit increases,” wrote Ken Smith, managing partner for Smith Leonard. “With the way the import world goes, as well as some specials for some of the big box stores, orders in a given month can fluctuate significantly so it will be the end of the quarter before we can really get a clear picture.”

Including the January increase, new orders have been increasing compared to the previous year 12 consecutive months and 22 of the last 23 months.
