Boulevard Home Furnishings Opens 4th Store

Boulevard Home Furnishings has just opened its fourth store in Cedar City, Utah, and the store features a new concept that pays homage to the town’s past and celebrates its cultural diversity.

The 35,000-square-foot store showcases an Americana theme that builds on Cedar City’s founding as an iron ore mining center. The town, founded in the mid-1800s, wasn’t fully connected with the rest of the country until the 1920s when a rail line was built.

“The entire store is modeled after a train terminal with a big, open main entrance three stories tall,” said Steve Manwaring, creative director, advertising, for Boulevard Home Furnishings. “Once you enter the store, the guest services desk to the left resembles a ticket booth.”

The retailer worked with Connie Post, CEO of Affordable Design Solutions, to create the store design.

“Our St. George store has a nostalgic, Old West feel, like you’re in a town square,” said Sheldon Wittwer, Boulevard. “For this smaller location, we wanted a similar feel.”

In addition to the train terminal, Post incorporated other railroad elements including a replica of a locomotive emerging from a wall. Post said the Boulevard name is at the core of the retailer’s brand.

“Their stores all have a central thoroughfare, or boulevard, reminiscent of Main Street in a small town,” she said. “My goal was to create a shopping experience that the community could identify with.”

Manwaring said the design works well for the market.

“This community takes a lot of pride in who they are,” he said. “By tying the store’s theme into its history, Connie has helped make this their store.”
