AHFA Sets Regulatory Summit in October

A representative from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will be the keynote speaker for the American Home Furnishings Alliance’s (AHFA) regulatory summit later this year.

Commissioner Joseph Mohorovic will address challenges facing the CPSC, including monitoring product safety issues within an increasingly complex supply chain. The summit is set for Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Crowne Plaza Hickory Hotel in Hickory, N.C.

Mohorovic was appointed to the CPSC in July 2014 to a five-year term that expires in October 2019. He has extensive public policy, product manufacturing and product testing experience. Prior to joining the commission, he was senior vice president of product testing company Intertek.

In addition to the CPSC, confirmed presenters include representatives from the California Bureau of Home Furnishings & Thermal Insulation and the California Air Resources Board.

Sponsored by AHFA’s Solution Partners division, the event will be preceded by the 2015 Solution Partners Education Golf Tournament Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Lake Hickory Country Club in Hickory.

The Summit will bring together top regulatory officials, scientific experts and industry leaders for the premier regulatory compliance conference in the industry. It is open to all manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and retailers whose regulatory compliance efforts rely on accurate, up-to-date guidance and authoritative answers to industry-specific questions.

“Rest assured that we will address every major regulatory challenge facing our industry,” said Bill Perdue, AHFA’s vice president of regulatory affairs. “If you are confused by partial information, misinformation or no information on key issues, you will want to attend this summit.”

Perdue will moderate the 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. summit.

Topics will include flammability standards, the latest research on the human health impacts of flame retardant chemicals, formaldehyde emission standards and enforcement complications, the latest tactics in Proposition 65 lawsuit defenses, and the latest guidance in product labeling.

Summit registration will be available soon on the Upcoming Events page of AHFA’s website

Team sign up for the 2015 Solution Partners Education Golf Tournament will be available on the same page. The event supports the only scholarship program in the home furnishings industry that provides educational support specifically targeting the children of industry workers.
