Ken Smith Honored for Service by Chamber

Ken Smith, audit partner with consulting firm Smith Leonard, has been named Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the High Point Chamber of Commerce

A High Point native, Smith graduated from High Point University in 1969 and has remained in the community working in public accounting.

Smith has been a partner at Smith Leonard and is predecessor BDO Seidman since 1980 and was managing partner of both organizations for most of that time.

Smith was national director of furniture industry services for BDO and carried the service forward a Smith Leonard.

For close to 25 years, he has published a monthly newsletter, Furniture Insights, that highlights trends and statistics impacting the furniture industry.

In addition to honoring his professional accomplishments, the Chamber award recognizes Smith’s community service.

Smith currently serves as chair of the High Point Regional Health Systems and has been active on boards of the American Home Furnishings Alliance, the Furniture Discovery Center, United Way of Greater High Point, High Point Chamber, High Point Partners, Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs, Kiwanis, High Point Economic Development Corp., String and Splinter Club and more.

“Through his years of service and involvement in the High Point community, Ken has been able to give back to various causes, but along the way, he’s also been a highly respected mentor and friend to so many who have followed in his footsteps,” said Darlene Leonard, managing partner and current High Point Chamber of Commerce chair.
