Sound Sleep Acquires Oregon Rug & Mattress Co.

Bedding veteran John Larsen has acquired Newberg, Ore.-based Oregon Rug & Mattress Co.

Larsen also owns Sumner, Wash.-based Sound Sleep Products, a regional producer of branded mattresses that operates using lean manufacturing techniques.

The newly formed Oregon Mattress Acquisition Co. will function independently from Sound Sleep Products. Mike Vanier will continue as the new company’s general manager.

Oregon Rug & Mattress, operational since 1932, has been a Restonic licensee since 2000. The Restonic line will continue being made in the Newberg, Ore., factory. Larsen’s Sleep Sound operates two facilities—one in Sumner, Wash., and one in Tacoma, Wash.

“In every area of our organization, we need to challenge the flow of supply and demand and adjust with agility and precision,” said Ron Passaglia, CEO and president of Restonic. “The supply side economics of Sound Sleep, coupled with the branded presence of Restonic in the Pacific Northwest marketplace with Oregon Mattress Co. positions this acquisition as a powerful move.”

Sound Sleep is the Northwest licensee for Lady Americana mattresses.

Company officials see synergies between the two companies in buying power, enhanced retailer support and market penetration.

“There is consolidation happening at all levels of the supply chain – retail, manufacturing – and these synergies will allow us to strengthen our core base and Restonic brand throughout the Pacific Northwest,” said Passaglia. “It’s refreshing to receive tremendous support from our retailers and it has already created a groundswell, which is a win-win situation for all.”
