Bob’s Discount Furniture has donated $45,000 to Save the Children Federation to assist with nutrition, healthcare, education and emergency response for kids.
Half of the donation was made possible by customer contributions to collection jars in Bob’s store cafés, which offer shoppers free coffee, ice cream, cookies and other refreshments. By matching those donations, Bob’s was able to provide $45,000 – its fourth quarterly cafe-funds donation of 2014 – to Save the Children.
Save the Children’s U.S. organization started in 1932, providing clothes, school supplies and hot lunches to rural children in Depression-era Kentucky. Today, it raises and spends nearly $700 million a year advocating for children’s rights, responding to disasters and assisting needy children with nutrition, health and education support in U.S. communities and around the world. In recent years it has helped communities in New York and New Jersey affected by Hurricane Sandy, as well as children affected by tornados in Oklahoma and floods in Colorado.
“This remarkable organization makes a huge difference in the lives of young people around the world,” said Cathy Poulin, public relations director for Bob’s. “It’s a perfect fit for our philanthropic efforts, which are primarily focused on schools and children-related charities.”
