Steinhafels Plans New Store

Home furnishings retailer Steinhafels plans to build a new store in Greenfield, Wis., to replace an older storefront in the city.

Steinhafels Inc. has agreed to help anchor a planned mixed-use development in Greenfield, Wis.

Development firm Cobalt Partners will be buying the existing Steinhafels store, 8400 W. Layton Ave., and some surrounding properties that the furniture retailer owns. That store building eventually will be demolished to make way for new development once the new Steinhafels store is completed nearby.

Cobalt also is buying another parcel for the project site, which is centered on the former Chapman Elementary school, 8500 W. Chapman Ave., Cobalt and Steinhafels announced. The Greenfield School District in October agreed to sell its property to Cobalt. The new Steinhafels store will be built on the school site.

Under the agreement with Steinhafels, the retailer would construct a new store along I-894 within the development. Cobalt is in discussions with several other prospective users, but no other announcements are imminent.
