Bob’s Discount Furniture Donates $25K to School

Bob’s Discount Furniture awarded $25,000 to a school in Maine, the winner of the furniture retailer’s annual Celebrate the Arts contest.

Gov. John Fairfield School in Saco, Maine, was randomly selected from about 4,000 entries submitted from 11 states where the retailer operates. This year the contest received the largest number of entries in its nine-year history.

“We’re always excited to see the impact that additional funding for the arts can make on schools and their students,” said Cathy Poulin, public relations director for Bob’s Discount Furniture. “Bob’s understands the importance of keeping arts and culture in our schools, which is why we’re so pleased to be able to show our support for these vitally important programs.”

Bob’s Discount Furniture started the Celebrate the Arts contest in 2006 after seeing numerous school districts dealing with budget cuts by scaling back fine arts and cultural programs. The company’s charitable Outreach Program created the annual contest to call attention to the problem and help schools in the communities it serves to support and maintain their arts programs. Since then, Bob’s has awarded more than $300,000 to support arts programs in the schools.
