FastFact: Slow and Steady Go Furniture, Mattress Sales

Overall growth in the home furnishings and bedding industry was slow, yet steady.
Total sales for the third quarter of this year were $22.06 billion. Strong bedding sales were a significant contributing factor overall third quarter sales.
Third quarter furniture sales increased 1.9 percent excluding mattress sales. Although third quarter furniture sales increased, second quarter sales were flat and dipped 0.3 percent from the second quarter of 2013.
Bedding sales in the third quarter climbed 4.9 percent compared to the third quarter 2013 and were up 9.2 percent over the previous quarter.
