Preliminary Estimate: Retail Sales up 4.1% for October

Retail sales rose 0.3 percent in October from September levels to $445.5 billion, according to advance estimates from The U.S. Department of Commerce.

Should those estimates hold true, October 2014 sales would register a strong 4.1 percent gain over October 2013.

Adjusted furniture and home furnishings store sales of $8.5 billion rose 1.4 percent in October compared with the same month last year.

DOC's advance estimates are based on a subsample from the U.S. Census Bureau's full retail and food services sample.
