American Furniture Hall of Fame Seeks Stories

2014 by in Community / Charitable Support, Industry
“Our Tell Your Story Project is one of the most engaging and fun services that the Hall provides,” said Bill Kimbrell, president of the foundation. “Not only are we preserving our favorite stories, but we are sharing them through interactive kiosks of the Wall of Fame in Furniture Plaza, on our Web site and during the banquet for all to enjoy. It’s such a simple but meaningful thing to do.”
Michael Amini, founder of Aico/Amini Innovations provides a videographer during the High Point Market Each interview takes about 10 minutes, start to finish.
Video taping of stories will be done Monday, Oct. 19 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Aico showroom at C802 of the International Home Furnishings Center.
New stories taped during the April Market were by Barton Bienenstock, Furniture World Publisher; Don Dreher, DMI Furniture/Flexsteel Industries; Bill Fenn, LADD; Darrell and Stella Harris, Furnitureland South; Keith Koenig, City Furniture: Steve Hodges, Steve Hodges Associates, Inc.; Irwin Novak, King’s Furniture; Martin Ploy, Aico President and Jane Seymour with Aico/Amini Innovations. These will be added to the previous stories.
Appointments are encouraged but not required for each 10-minute taping. For questions or to reserve a time, e-mail Lauren Estep.
The stories, captured on video, serve four purposes. Excerpts will be presented at the organization's 2015 October Banquet, on the foundation Web site, and on kiosks at the Wall of Fame in Furniture Plaza. They also are entered into the foundation archives for future use as a video and written transcript.
The foundation is also collecting company history books and historic photos to build its collection and further preserve the industry’s history. These materials can be sent to the American Furniture Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. at 202 Neal Place, High Point, N.C., 27262.
