He joins an accomplished team of home furnishings professionals to support the non-profit organization. Each year the library awards scholarships to furniture designers, and he will play an instrumental role in promoting the opportunity, evaluating submissions and choosing a winner.
"I am pleased to have Jason join the Library board," said Board President Russell Bienenstock. "A hard worker who has developed an impressive network of industry affiliations and contacts, Jason will be a huge asset for the Library as it pursues its mission to support home furnishings and interior design, invest in new design talent and promote collaboration in our industry. His product design, manufacturing credentials and substantial leadership skills are a big plus for us."
"I am very excited and honored to be on the board and am looking forward to working with the team, sharing my thoughts and contributing where I can," Phillips said. "I have always admired the mission of the Library to promote research, design and collaboration. I want to extend this mission to a new generation of furniture designers."
Phillips is known in the furniture industry for his fresh contemporary designs. His work has been published in dozens of design and lifestyle magazines as well as hundreds of blogs. Most recently, he was honored at the 21st Annual ARTS Awards as Product Designer of the Year, the youngest-ever recipient of this prestigious award. In late 2009 he won Veranda magazine's inaugural "The Art of Design" award for his body of work in the "Trade Secrets" category.
