Roche Bobois, Venus Williams Makeover Women's Shelter

Roche Bobois and tennis star Venus Williams joined forces to refurnish the Lotus House shelter for homeless and abused women and children.

The shelter, located in one of Miami's poorest neighborhoods, boasts 35  resident apartments along with dining facilities, common areas and an office. Furnishings included new sofas, chairs, tables, sideboards, desks, bedroom and dining room furniture, lamps, area rugs, wall mirrors, art and accessories. Williams is the principal of V*Starr Interiors

"One of the most important lessons my mother taught me was to be confident and believe in yourself," Williams said. "That really has resonated with me because it’s hard to always be successful, and it’s even harder on you when you fail,” Williams said. “That’s going to happen, too. You’re going to fail. But that doesn’t mean it’s the end. When you fail, it means you’re at least trying something, which shows you’re on the right path.”

Julien Bigan, U.S.communications director for Roche Bobois, complimented Lotus House's mission of providing programs to help residents better themselves to become self-sufficient.

"To be able to make Lotus House feel more like a home to these incredibly brave people is both a pleasure and a privilege," he said. "We are affiliated with charities around the world, and Lotus House has made one of the biggest impacts on me and my associates.”
