Lekker Home to Host David Trubridge

Boston home furnishings retailer Lekker Home will host New Zealand-based architect, designer and environmentalist David Trubridge for an exclusive student workshop followed by a public reception and book signing on Oct. 9.

Lekker is the exclusive destination in New England for Trubridge’s collection of award-winning, eco-conscious lighting designs inspired by the myths, legends and beauty of New Zealand.

Trubridge’s appearance at Lekker Home is the only Boston-planned event in recognition of National Design Week and is the only Boston appearance scheduled during David’s brief visit to the United States. National Design Week, October 4-12, celebrates the important role that design plays in all aspects of daily life. Launched in 2006 by the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, National Design Week is held each year in conjunction with the National Design Awards, the museum’s largest and most visible education initiative. Several of Trubridge’s designs are included in the permanent collections of museums around the world.

Trubridge’s recently published account of his development as a designer, "So Far" (Craig Potton Publishing, 2013), has become a collector’s item by virtue of its sell-out, difficult-to-find status. So Far is a fascinating and thoughtful look at the progress and evolution of Trubridge’s personal and professional life, including his thoughts on the creative process and his passionate commitment to developing a work practice that is environmentally sustainable. Through special arrangement with the publisher in New Zealand, Lekker Home has secured copies of So Far that will be sold in advance and during the event.

The event schedule at Lekker Home, 1313 Washington St., Boston, on Thursday, Oct. 9, follows"
* 5-6 p.m., Student Workshop “Gather, Learn, Share” student workshop.
* 6-8 p.m., Meet the Designer Reception & Book Signing.

These events are free and open to the public, but RSVP is required. Advance RSVP confirmation will be given to those purchasing a book at Lekker Home. RVSP here.
