Bob’s Discount Furniture will contribute $20,000 to local schools to celebrate the August 28 grand openings of its newest locations, located in Riverhead, N.Y., and Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
These stores mark the 52nd and 53rd Bob’s locations throughout the East Coast and Mid-Atlantic regions.
The 23,000-square-foot Riverhead store is expected to add 20 new jobs to the local economy and will be managed by Crystal Merriman, who has worked in the retail furniture industry for more than a decade, most recently as sales manager at Bob’s Yonkers, N.Y., store.
The 34,000-square-foot Wilkes-Barre store is expected to add 20 new jobs to the local economy and will be managed by Roy Horton, whose 20 years of retail experience includes management positions with Sears and Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitters.
“New York and Pennsylvania are becoming increasingly important markets for our company,” said Bob Kaufman, president emeritus and co-founder of Bob's Discount Furniture, Manchester, Conn. “We look forward to bringing great furniture at the value prices we are known for to Riverhead, Wilkes-Barre and the surrounding communities.”
Grand opening celebrations for both stores will start at 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, with local dignitaries on hand and complimentary refreshments served from the stores’ cafes. Kaufman will attend the Wilkes-Barre store’s ribbon cutting. Cathy Poulin, the company’s public relations director, will be on hand for the ribbon cutting at the Riverhead store.
Children’s entertainment will include balloons and face painting. Grand-opening festivities will extend through the Labor Day weekend.
To show its commitment to the communities served by the new stores, Bob’s began donating to area schools in early July. By the end of the grand opening weekend, Bob’s will have donated a total of $20,000 to local schools.
These donations come from Bob’s Outreach program, which helps support schools and programs for children in the communities where it operates.
