2014 by in Economic News, Industry
It has been a long, grueling journey since the 2009 recession when sales for the home furnishings industry hit rock bottom, but home furnishings sales have now crossed the finish line with a photo finish to prove it.
Furniture and bedding sales may have experienced a dip in the first quarter of 2014, but the industry has since bounced back. After the first quarter slump, industry sales rose 3.3 percent in the second quarter. This percentage increase is accompanied by total sales of $21.8 billion.
Compared to the statistics of the same quarter in the previous year, furniture and bedding sales combined shared a 3.1 percent increase. Alone, the furniture industry reported a sales increase of 2.9 percent over the second quarter of last year. Since the first quarter of 2014, the furniture industry has experienced a 4.2 percent sales increase.
The bedding industry depreciated 1.8 percent during the second quarter. Despite the depreciation, mattress sales remain 4 percent ahead of those reported in the second quarter of 2013.
