Furniture Mall of Kansas to Open in Benchmark Building

A former furniture outlet in Olathe, Kans., is about to become a furniture outlet again.

The Winter family, which owns Furniture Mall of Kansas locations in Topeka and Lawrence, plans to open a third mall at the former Benchmark Home Furnishings complex at Kansas City Road and Renner Boulevard.

Win LLC, a partnership created by the family, has a contract to buy a 160,000-square-foot building at 2125 E. Kansas City Road for the new furniture mall. The partnership seeks $9.3 million in industrial bond financing from Olathe to obtain a sales tax exemption on construction materials used in the building's renovation. According to its IRB application, the furniture outlet will employ about 155.

NorthPoint Development is selling the building. Early this year, NorthPoint bought the 160,000-square-foot building and a 240,000-square-foot building that were previously part of the 700,000-square-foot Benchmark Home Furnishings Complex.
