HomeIdentity, a furniture retailer based in Ecuador, is previewing its first U.S. store in Houston with a pop-up store. The permanent showroom is scheduled to open in the fall.
How's this for globalization: A successful store based in Ecuador that sells high-end contemporary European and South American furnishings is opening its first U.S. location in Houston. With a permanent showroom in the works (and set to open this fall), HomeIdentity owners Adrian Dueñas and Marcelo Saenz are giving Houstonians a sneak peek of their cutting-edge offerings with a pop-up shop inside the gallery space at 4411 Montrose.
Open now through the end of July, the temporary shop's high ceilings and crisp white gallery walls are the perfect complement for highly textural handmade rugs by Spain's NaniMarquina, Elitis's gilded wallpapers, clean Scandinavian furniture forms by Danish brand Danform and avant-garde light fixtures by Vibia, a Spanish brand available in Houston for the first time. HomeIdentity also carries the full line of Kartell products, from the ubiquitous Louis ghost chair by Philippe Starck to the fur-and-snake-covered Mademoiselle Kravitz chair that was styled by Lenny Kravitz. Contemporary doesn't have to mean costly, either: Kartell accessories, such as acrylic vases, luminous trays and faceted stools, start around $100 and dining chairs start at about $300.
