Rug supplier AMS Imports is undergoing an ownership and leadership change that takes effect Tuesday.
Taylor van der Mandele becomes the company owner and president tomorrow.
Anne Schewe is retiring and will remain as a consultant to AMS, but is looking forward to other adventures and to working in Washington, D.C., as an advocate for seat belt safety.
Van der Mandele has a background in marketing and sales and recently completed her MBA. She was raised in a family who had great interest in rugs and textiles, priming her for the rug industry from a young age. Van der Mandele and Schewe have been working together for more than a year to ensure a smooth transition.
AMS Imports is known for “unique area rugs from around the world” and has worked closely with Aid to Artisans, an organization that connects handicraft people in developing countries with importers such as AMS in order to increase export to the US market. AMS is working currently in Jordan, Peru and Egypt with the Aid to Artisans connection and additionally imports from Scotland, Afghanistan, Morocco, India, Colombia, Nepal, Turkey and Uzbekistan. The company has also found success with its Rug Search Group, a program that sources rugs for designers that are working on projects in need of area rugs.
