Children's Furniture Store Goes Big in N.J.

The people behind the Home & Kidz furniture store in Paramus, scheduled to open Friday, think the time is right for a big change in children's furniture retailing.
They are opening the largest children's furniture specialty store in North Jersey in the 90,000-square-foot former Home Depot Expo space on Winters Avenue, just north of Paramus Park mall.
When the Home Depot Expo store opened in Paramus in 2001, it was described by executives from the home improvement chain as a "Disneyworld'' for adult homeowners fantasizing about their perfect kitchen or bathroom, and the cavernous building was filled with room after room of luxury appliance. Now, after sitting vacant for five years, the space has been converted into dozens of fantasy bedrooms for infants, toddlers and preteens, with themes ranging from pirate ship to princess to prehistoric.
