Leon's Furniture has been ordered to pay a former employee $8,000 in damages in a racial discrimination case.
A human rights board of inquiry in Nova Scotia has ordered Leon's Furniture Ltd. (TSX:LNF) to pay a former employee $8,000 in damages after finding she was teased and racially discriminated against by her co-workers.
The board says Garnetta Cromwell experienced 10 incidents of racial harassment while working as a sales associate at Leon's Furniture in Halifax.
It also says Cromwell faced excessive and ongoing discipline for workplace infractions at the store, while being discouraged from applying for management positions.
