Ikea Russia Loses FSC Accreditation

Home furnishings retailer Ikea Industry, the Russian subsidiary of Ikea, has lost its Forest Stewardship Council accreditation following an audit.

Ikea Industry, a subsidiary of furniture retailer Ikea, has had its Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) accreditation removed after an audit found substantial failings.

Amongst the problems found included lack of a proper environmental impact assessment, inadequate protective equipment for workers, and the harvesting of what it calls 'key biotopes'. The Rainforest Alliance, which carried out the audit, said that the problems had been systematic and spread over an extended time period.

The company said that most of the problems had already been corrected, and it was committed to addressing outstanding issues quickly to regain FSC certification.
