Harkness Furniture is giving back more than $70,000 to customers after Percy Harvin's kickoff return for a Seattle Seahawks touchdown to open the second half of the Super Bowl.
The Tacoma, Wash., retailer offered a full refund on any new furniture or mattress purchase made between Thursday and Sunday before Sunday's game if the Seahawks returned their opening kickoff for a touchdown.
“A lot of Harkness customers are enjoying their new recliner or mattress set even more than they thought they would … everyone loves free,” said Dave Harkness, owner of Harkness Furniture. “We’ve been excited for the Hawks since day one, so we were looking for a way to celebrate their success this year and their trip to the Super Bowl, as well as recognizing the 12th man. It’s been a lot of fun.”
In addition to the free furniture offer, Harkness added a storewide ‘12 Sale’ event with an extra 12 percent off sale prices, 12 months interest free financing and their regular $99 delivery service lowered to just $12.
“We expect to be pretty busy this week contacting customers with the good news,” said Harkness, who estimated they’ll end up giving away a little more than $70,000 in purchases. Harkness has been calling customers personally to congratulate them on their good fortune and make arrangements for reimbursement.
Harkness Furniture, a family owned furniture and mattress retailer, has been in business since 1920.
