She succeeds interior designer Miles Redd, who served as creative director of Oscar de la Renta Home since 2003. Redd has resigned to focus on his own interior design business.
In her new role, Irving will oversee the creative direction and execution of the Oscar de la Renta Home collection, including the Gift & Entertaining collection that is produced in-house, the furniture line manufactured by Century Furniture, home fabrics and wallpaper with Lee Jofa, and rugs produced by Elson & Company.
Irving started her career at House & Garden where she worked for 10 years as editor at large. In 2007, she left House & Garden to work with Hamish Bowles on Vogue Living, and started her own fabric business, Carolina Irving Textiles, which she continues to operate. She also contributes to T Magazine, where she writes a monthly column entitled “In the Air.”
“I am incredibly excited to work with Oscar," Irving said. "His style is iconic; if any fashion designer has legitimacy to do home, it’s Oscar. He has the most fantastic sense of color and scale.”
“While Miles Redd has done an excellent job here and we will miss him tremendously, I can think of no better person than Carolina to continue to develop our Home collection. Her taste is fabulous,” said Oscar de la Renta.
