SFC Has West Coast Double Header

The Sustainable Furnishings Council will host two programs on the West Coast next week, starting at Las Vegas Furniture Market.

In Las Vegas, SFC will present “Cradle to Cradle Thinking: What Is It & What It Can Do For You,” a panel discussion at Las Vegas Market. The event, set for Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Surya showroom, World Market Center-C444, will feature interior designer and best-selling author Lori Dennis of Lori Dennis Design; and Lewis Perkins, senior vice president of development and textiles and apparel, Cradle To Cradle Products Innovation Institute.

Dennis and Perkins will introduce attendees to a future-focused approach to design that examines the entire lifecycle of an environment or product, from raw material and processing to manufacturing, distribution, use, reuse and recycling.

“Forward-thinking businesses are applying the cradle-to-cradle approach to get ahead in their markets, without compromising design and beauty,” said SFC Executive Director Susan Inglis. “Las Vegas Market attendees will learn firsthand how to implement these cutting-edge strategies.”

Next, the SFC will go to Los Angeles for an exclusive tour of EcoBungalow-LA, a fire-safe, non-toxic and energy-efficient residence designed by Robin Wilson of Robin Wilson Home, for a family whose home was destroyed on Christmas Day in 2011. SFC, named the charity of choice for EcoBungalow-LA, will host tours on Thursday, Jan. 30.

“EcoBungalow-LA is a living laboratory of sustainable design that will showcase healthy, affordable space with high design,” Wilson said.

Located in the Beverlywood neighborhood of Los Angeles, the multi-generational house has WaterSense-certified products, a solar power system, energy-efficient lighting, non-toxic flooring, hypoallergenic bedding, a hard-wired fire monitoring system and a home camera system. Products from SFC members are featured throughout EcoBungalow-LA, including wallcoverings from Aronel Design Studio(aronel.com), upholstery from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams and furniture from Salamander.

Both events are free. The Las Vegas Market Cradle to Cradle seminar is open to all show attendees. Pre-registration is required to tour EcoBungalow-LA on Jan. 30; available tours are 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m. or 7 p.m.
