In a province, where many of the structures were destroyed by the storm, the funds donated by Palecek, Richmond, Calif., will immediately be utilized to rebuild a public school that was damaged beyond use.
Anapong Integrated School in Cebu serves over 450 students, who range in age from kindergarten to high school. Since the typhoon hit in November, the students have been attending class in temporary structures made from plywood, tarps and cardboard.
Palecek Vice President Andrew Palecek visited with the educators and students at the affected school last week.
“It is difficult to see all of the catastrophic destruction caused by the typhoon and it is clear significant aid is still needed from the international community for this region to recover," he said. "As a company, it is important for us to invest in the people here and ensure school facilities are safe and conducive environments for education.”
Palecek has a long standing history of providing aid to communities in the wake of natural disasters, having made substantial donations to the victims of the Myanmar Cyclone, Hurricane Katrina, and the Asian tsunami disaster of 2004. As with all previous donations, Palecek matched employee contributions to the Typhoon Haiyan relief fund.
