Recognized as one of the most outstanding and influential designers of the Arts & Crafts Movement, Morris is best known for his patterns on fabrics and wallpapers. He drew his design inspiration from handicraft and traditional techniques from the Middle Ages, with a focus on incorporating into his works the natural forms found in an increasingly industrialized world.
The Morris Collection translates authentic versions of Morris’ original designs alongside new interpretations into a collection of rugs with timeless appeal. Constructed in India of 100 percent wool, these handcrafted rugs are offered in a distinctive color palette that complements the fabrics and wallpapers in the Morris & Co. collections, as well as Surya’s home accessories offerings across multiple categories.
“Renowned for his iconic and decorative designs, William Morris emphasized craftsmanship and attention to every detail,” said Evert Kroon, brand manager, William Morris Rugs. “Both Surya and Morris & Co. represent innovation and luxury synonymous with the highest quality and enduring appeal. We are pleased to partner with Surya to bring to life Morris’s signature designs in beautiful and elegant rugs.”
Through Surya’s partnership with Morris & Co., Morris’s designs will be accessible to an even wider range of consumers, something to which Morris always aspired.
“William Morris was a true force of nature who believed in the power of design to change the world,” said Satya Tiwari, president of Surya, Calhoun, Ga. “While looking to the past for inspiration, he created a visionary, forward-thinking approach to design, as well as the way we view the world--both of which remain highly relevant today. We are excited to have the opportunity to share Morris’s refined and inspired designs with our designer and retailer customers.”
The Atlanta Winter Market takes place Jan. 7-14. Surya’s showroom at AmericasMart 11-A-1 will be open daily, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
