Havertys Q4 Sales up 7.6 Percent

Furniture retailer Havertys (NYSE: HVT) reported fourth quarter 2013 sales of $196.2 million, a 7.6 percent increase over the prior-year period.

Comparable store sales for Atlanta-based Havertys rose 9.5 percent.

Sales for the 12 months of 2013 totaled $746.1 million, compared with $670.1 million in 2012, representing an increase of 11.3 percent.  On a comparable store basis, sales increased 11 percent in 2013.

Total written sales for the fourth quarter of 2013 increased 6.3 percent, and written comparable store sales increased 7.7 percent over the same quarter of 2012.

"We finished 2013 with sales increases across our full line of home furnishings--helping us post our best sales performance since the beginning of the 'Great Recession' in 2007," said Clarence H. Smith, chairman, president and CE. "The quarter was marked with a continued expansion of our custom order business, free in-home design service, and higher average ticket.

"Our merchandising and marketing are differentiating us from the competition and, combined with sustained increases in home sales and home prices, we believe our sales and market share will continue to grow in 2014."

Havertys is a full-service, middle to upper-middle price-point home furnishings retailer with 119 showrooms in 16 states in the Southern and Midwestern regions.
