Curations Debuts in High Point

Case goods furniture and home accents vendor Curations Ltd. will make its High Point Furniture Market debut this week.

Curations' High Point showroom is located at 225 S. Elm St., where the 5-year-old company will show full gallery collections of vintage-inspired upholstery, case goods and home accent pieces, all updated vintage styling and constructed using eco-friendly fabrics and reclaimed wood.
 
Curations Limited was founded in 2006 by interior designer and entrepreneur Eleonora Stefantasova. After developing a loyal clientele and customer base in the domestic markets in both Europe and Russia, the company set its sights on the U.S. market, entering with a soft launch in High Point in fall 2010 and then establishing its High Point warehouse, office and showroom for the Spring 2011 Market.
 
Designs are created to work within a wide range of design environments, from the metropolitan loft and suburban home to the country retreat and mountain getaway. Curations also targets eco-minded consumers with furnishings using reclaimed woods and "green" fabrics such as linen and hemp.
 
Sofa wholesale price points begin at $657, and occasional/accent items such as side tables begin at $167.
 
The line is available one piece at a time from Curations' High Point warehouse, or container direct from its manufacturing partner in China.

Furnitureland South to Host Paula Deen Live

Furnitureland South, Jamestown, N.C., will host cookbook author and Food Network television personality Paula Deen this Monday 11 a.m.-noon.

Deen will speak to guests about her life and success, answer audience questions, and promote her home furnishings collection, Paula Deen Home by Universal Furniture. The first 100 attendees will receive complimentary, signed copies of the popular magazine Cooking with Paula Deen. Guests can also register to win signed copies of The Deen Family Cookbook, or a Drawer End Table or Lamp Table from the Paula Deen Home Collection, also signed by Deen.

While learning the secrets of Southern cooking from her Grandmother Paul some 30 years ago, Deen had no idea that it would lead to a life-long career. Now a thriving businesswoman, Deen has three Food Network television shows, a series of successful cookbooks, multiple restaurants and a line of branded products ranging from kitchen accessories to home furnishings.

Sealy Posts 1Q Loss

By Home Furnishings Business in Bedding on March 30, 2011 Bedding supplier Sealy (NYSE: ZZ) reported a net loss for the first quarter ended Feb. 27 of $902,000 compared to net income in the first quarter of last year of $5.7 million.

Net sales for the quarter were $305.5 million, a 2 percent decrease compared to net sales of $311.9 million during the same quarter last year.

"Our first quarter results were consistent with the expectations and objectives that we established as we entered the year, with overall revenues in-line with our Q1 internal plan," said Larry Rogers, president and CEO. "In addition, the first quarter results reflected the financial impact of the significant strategic investments in our product portfolio, as we launched the Next Generation Posturepedic line in late January 2011."

Total U.S. net sales decreased 3.1 percent to $238.7 million from the first quarter of fiscal 2010. Wholesale unit volume decreased 1.3 percent, while wholesale average unit selling price decreased 1.9 percent on a year-over-year basis.

International net sales increased $1.3 million, or 1.9 percent, from the first quarter of fiscal 2010 to $66.8 million.

Capel Promotes Capel

By Home Furnishings Business in Executive Changes on March 30, 2011 Cameron Capel has been promoted to vice president of national accounts for Capel Rugs.

In this new position, Capel will continue to manage some of the company's most important customer relationships and spearhead the development of proprietary braids for those customers. As vice president, she also will serve as a primary media spokesperson for Capel Rugs.

Capel continues to report directly to John Magee, president and CEO.

"Cameron is extremely talented at developing new business and managing relationships with our most important clients. She knows this company, and the rug industry, inside and out," Magee said. "We are very happy to recognize all of Cameron's hard work and look forward to continuing to work with her as we write a new chapter in Capel Rug's long history as a leader in the rug industry."

"Having learned under one of the best, my father Len Capel, I feel well-prepared to take on more clients and grow the business," Capel said. "I appreciate the trust and confidence the board has in advancing me."

Capel joined the company in 1990 and, as the granddaughter of company founder Leon Capel, has a lifelong connection to Capel Rugs. During her tenure at the company, Capel has served in a variety of sales and marketing positions. She most recently held the position of director of national accounts.
