Twin-Star Offers Split Container Program for All Brands

By Home Furnishings Business in Business Strategy on May 17, 2011 Twin-Star International is offering a split-container program for the company€™s ClassicFlame electric fireplaces, Tresanti media consoles, Thermoelectric wine coolers, beverage cabinets, kitchen islands, and Duraflame infrared quartz heaters and fireplaces.

Twin Star will be fully operational in its 180,000-square-foot warehouse in the Shenzhen free trade zone by June 15. The 300-cube, split-container program is operated in conjunction with Zenith Global Logistics.

Retailers who participate in the program get China-direct pricing while being able to order in small quantities. Any or all of Twin-Star€™s brands and products can be mixed in one 300 cube order. Prices to the retailers include all duties and freight from Twin-Star€™s China warehouse to the retail store.

Split container orders are targeted to arrive at the retailer's door in about six weeks. Zenith€™s program also includes 24-hour Web portal access for live updates on status and location of all orders.

€œWe built our business by giving our customers the unique ability to mix all our diverse product categories in one container, now the smaller retailer or a customer who does not choose to buy a whole container will also have the option of buying at less than domestic prices by split container," said Bill Caples, Twin-Star vice president of sales and marketing. "We believe in giving our customers options and in selling them the way they want to buy. With the split container program all of our customers have the ability to buy either domestically or by direct import or both at any time.€

Home Remodeling Grows Again in March

By Home Furnishings Business in economic news on May 16, 2011

BuildFax's home remodeling real estate index, which grew for the 17th straight month in March, could be good news for furniture retailers.

Austin, Texas-based BuildFax reported Monday that remodeling continued with year-over-year gains, even while the economy continues to struggle and the real-estate industry continues to be challenged.

The March 2011 index shows that all regions except the Midwest posted year-over-year and month-over-month gains. The West posted the largest gains, up 18.5 points, or 22 percent, year-over-year; and up 5.4 points, or 6 percent, month-over-month. The Midwest saw significant drops, down 15.3 points (20 percent) year-over-year; and 3.3 points (5 percent) month-over-month, perhaps due to a colder winter. The Northeast gained 2.7 points (4 percent) year-over-year; and 4.5 points (8 percent) month-over-month. The South improved 7.8 points (10 percent) year-over-year and 7 points (9 percent) month-over-month.

"The winter of 2010/2011 was one of the worst on record," said Joe Emison, vice president of research and development at BuildFax. "The economy is continuing to struggle and gas prices have soared, however, consumers in March still continued spending on renovations and home improvements as they drove the remodeling industry to yet another month of solid gains compared to a year ago. Significant improvements in the West continue to drive activity nationally to the best year in remodeling since 2006. Even though the Midwest saw a drop this winter, early data shows that remodeling in all regions will continue to prove out the economic recovery in 2011."

The Residential BuildFax Remodeling Index in March 2011 rose 14 percent year-over-year€”and for the 17th straight month to 98, the highest March number in the index aside from March 2006. Residential remodels in March were up month-over-month 2.9 points (3 percent) from the February value of 95.1, and up year-over-year 12 points from the March 2010 value of 86.

Crosby and Nash Bring Down the House at Arhaus

By Home Furnishings Business in Store Openings on May 16, 2011

Arhaus Furniture presented an invitation-only in-store performance by 70s music stars David Crosby and Graham Nash to open its New York City location.

Nearly 600 guests filled the new 28,000-square-foot Manhattan location to hear legendary songs from Crosby, Stills & Nash's legendary songs.

"The Arhaus opening in New York is our 38th store in the U.S., and it warranted a special reveal," said John Reed, CEO. "To have such musical giants as David Crosby and Graham Nash singing such beloved classics like 'Our House' was a rare treat that has set the tone for the exceptional experience Arhaus brings to New York shoppers.

"With that one single 'Our House' anthem, Crosby and Nash brought down the house at Arhaus," commented Reed. "What better way to begin our New York venture?"

Officials: Furniture Market Still has State Support

By Aggregated Content in High Point on May 16, 2011 from http://c.moreover.com/click/here.pl?r4629014014&f=10761 The historic, $1 billion deal announced earlier this month that will bring the three main High Point Market showroom complexes and the World Market Center in Las Vegas under one ownership hasn't changed attitudes among top state officials about funding for the High Point furniture market.

State appropriations make up 40 percent of the $5 million budget for the High Point Market Authority. The state appropriations began last decade about the time that the then-rival World Market Center was opening as the main threat to the High Point Market€™s dominance in the U.S. home furnishings trade show field.
