Las Vegas Market Registration Opens

Registration for the upcoming summer 2013 Las Vegas Market is now open for retailers and designers.

Attendees are encouraged to register in advance to ensure receipt of market information, including new resources and showrooms, networking events and trend information. Registration  for the market set for July 29-Aug. 2 is available online or via the market's customer service telephone line at (866) 229-3574. International registrants should call (301) 644-4981.

Registration for tenants, exhibitors, manufacturer representatives and media will open June 4.

Attendees can take advantage of "early bird" discounts with select partner hotels, with the first deadline beginning June 7. The Las Vegas Market Web site offers its attendees a variety of room options at more than 20 Las Vegas hotels. Rates start at $35/night for nearby downtown hotel properties and $39/night for Las Vegas Strip properties. 

Hillside Furniture Takes Detroit Honor

Home furnishings retailer Hillside Furniture has been named best furniture store for the second consecutive year by readers of Hour Detroit magazine in an online poll.

Winners in the magazine's various categories will be honored at a party June 21 at MotorCity Casino Hotel in Detroit. 

The Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-retailer was founded in 1974 by CEO Bruce Selik and is now run by his son Jeff Selik, president.

"We are so honored to win this title two years in a row and we are already working hard towards earning next year's title," Jeff Selik said.

Camillo Honored by Legacy Classic

Legacy Classic Furniture  and Legacy Classic Kids recognized top sales professionals at its annual sales awards banquet held during the Spring High Point Market.

The top honor went to Skip Camillo, who was named the 2012 Sales representative of the year. Camillo, a veteran of the award, oversees Legacy Classic in New England. He was selected for his dedication to his retailers, professionalism, and sales excellence. Camillo has represented the company for more than 12 years and earned the same honor in 2010. 

"Skip does a remarkable job of focusing on his retailers' needs and partnering with them to achieve success," said Jerry Sagerdahl, vice president of sales. "It's our great pleasure to recognize this true professional."

Other honors for outstanding achievement went to David Bakonyi, Mike Brown & Barbara Burroughs, Linda & Tommy Burleson, Cathy Carnett, Ted & Matthew Kim, Steve Taylor and Gary Weeks.

Knoxville Wholesale Furniture to Build $10M Showroom

Knoxville Wholesale Furniture plans to build a $10 million replacement store in the former Fowler's Furniture building in West Knoxville.

Calling it the company's "crowning achievement," President Tim Harris said the new store will replace the existing Parkside Drive location, doubling its space to 122,000 square feet to become its largest showroom.

"We will be taking one of the final steps in our goal to achieve maximum market share," Harris said.

Washington Design Center Moving to Downtown D.C.

When the Washington Design Center showrooms got word last July that their Southwest D.C. building had been sold and was becoming a Bible museum, they began scrambling to find a new location. Now the Design Center steering committee is announcing that Franklin Court (1099 14th St. N.W.) has been selected as its new home.

So far, more than half of the 30 high-end home furnishings tenants have agreed to move there early next year and more are expected to join the list.
