Maricich Shares Vision for IMC

By Home Furnishings Business in Markets on August 23, 2011 Bob Maricich, chief executive officer of International Market Centers, sat down recently for a video interview with Ellen Gefen, principal of TheHome.com, to discuss plans for holdings in High Point and Las Vegas.

Maricich talks about how the IMC will work with the two competitive trade shows and what IMC would like the citizens of High Point and Las Vegas, as well as the businesses that are a part of the Markets, to know.

In the interview, Maricich emphasizes the importance of focusing on the buyers' experience to enhance and improve the both markets.

Office Star Names Marietta Director of Product Development

Anna Marietta has joined home office and office furniture vendor Office Star Products as director of product development for OSP Designs and OSP Furniture.

"We are excited to welcome Anna to Office Star and feel her extensive background will add to the depth of our company's infrastructure as well as our expanded design team," said Rick Blumenthal, president of Office Star, Ontario, Calif. "And to better serve our customers, her responsibilities will also include an active role in sales and marketing."

Marietta joins the Office Star team from Whalen Furniture Manufacturing where she served as director of industrial design. Past affiliations also include Slam Brands Inc., where she held a similar position. Marietta majored in Industrial Design at the Art Institute of Seattle.

"I'm very pleased to join the ranks of Office Star Products--we share the same vision for creating original and highly functional furniture designs that will enhance the style and comfort of any home while adding to the success of our retailers," Marietta said.

Evans Joins E.L.K. Lighting Group

Prior to joining the company, Evans spent 12 years in a variety of positions with Memphis, Tenn.-based Hunter Fan Co. and Casablanca Fan Co. In his new position, he reports to James Ashley, vice president of sales and marketing.

Evans is responsible for managing the lighting showroom sales team in the eastern United States and implementing sales programs across the company's brands--E.L.K. Lighting, Landmark Lighting, Sterling Inds., Bailey Street, Nulco Lighting, Artistic Lighting & Design and Dimond.

Evans will maintain offices in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. In the last year, ELK has opened additional offices in Dallas and Portland to align with their strategy of providing regionalized support tailored to the local marketplaces.

Spotlight on Furniture Retailer Room & Board

Room & Board was growing rapidly, having recently added a store on Chicago's elegant Michigan Ave.

"We knew California would be a good market," recalled Room & Board President and Chief Operating Officer Bruce Champeau.

But Room & Board is a company that works closely with its suppliers, mainly U.S.-based furniture producers. "In most cases," said Champeau, "we are their largest customer." Could suppliers handle the ramped-up production required to meet new demand from California?

Castleberry's Fine Furniture to Consolidate Locations
