Going Out of Business Sales: When are They Allowed?

A Salina, Fla., furniture store says they are going out of business but another local furniture store says that€™s not the case. Is the first business using a €œ€going out of business€ sale to drive up sales?

120 Jobs at American Furniture Warehouse

2 Flexsteel Board Members to Retire

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on September 13, 2011 Two long-time Flexsteel (NASDAQ: FLXS) board members plan to retire their positions in December.

Bruce Boylen and Tom Holloran will both step down at the December shareholders meeting.

Boylen joined the board in 1994 with an extensive background in the recreational vehicle industry and manufacturing operations. During his career with Fleetwood Enterprises, Boylen was involved in every aspect of development, manufacturing and management.

During his 17 years on the Flexsteel board, he served as a member of the nominating and compensation committee from 1994 through 2003; he served as chairman since 1995. He also was a member of the audit and ethics committee. He was named chairman of the board in 2000.

Holloran has been on the board for nearly 40 years, joining in 1971. He served on the company's audit and ethics committee since its beginning in 1976 and served as committee chairman through 2008. He also served on the nominating and compensation committee from 1982 through 2010. He has also been the company's lead independent director for nearly 20 years.

"Flexsteel has been very fortunate to have Bruce and Tom as trusted advisors for many years," said Ronald J. Klosterman, Flexsteel's president and CEO. "We will miss the guidance and counsel of Bruce and Tom. Our company is much stronger because of their insights, significant contributions and the consistent support that they have provided during their long tenures as directors."

Flexsteel to Pay Dividend

By Home Furnishings Business in Case Goods on September 13, 2011 Flexsteel Inds. (NASDAQ: FLXS) has declared a quarterly dividend of $0.10 per share, payable Oct. 6 to shareholders of record as of Sept. 22.

The home furnishings company has paid cash dividends each year since 1938 on its common stock. This is the 279th consecutive cash dividend.

The Sustainable Furnishings Council has set a free Sustainability Essentials webinar for Monday at 1 p.m. Eastern time.

This one-hour session provides a grounding in the environmental issues related to home furnishings, including the factual basis for climate change, problems with indoor air quality, toxic waste, and water conservation. Source documents are public records such as the U.N. IPCC 4th Assessment Report and the U.S. EPA, translated from technical jargon into easily understood concepts with common references all explicitly linked to the home furnishings industry.

Content also includes a synopsis of GREENleaders certified sustainability training course. This webinar is intended to give participants useful information they begin using in your business immediately as well as answer any questions about getting the most out of SFC membership and participating in the full exam program to receive credentials as a local expert in green furnishings.
