Haverty Furniture reported Thursday that revenue for its stores open at least a year fell 0.6 percent in the third quarter. That is a key indicator of a retailer's sales performance because it strips away the impact of recently opened or closed stores. Haverty said total revenue for the period fell 1.1 percent to $155.4 million, compared with $157.1 million for the third quarter last year. Davie County and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. are hoping the company's donation of 360 acres of pasture land will serve as another economic catalyst for the Triad. The payoff of the gift could come quickly, analysts and site-selection officials said Wednesday. The Davie County Economic Development Commission announced the donation of the site off Baltimore Road near Interstate 40 and U.S. 158. The National Home Furnishings Association will give away two iPads to furniture retailers visiting the NHFA Retailer Resource Center at High Point Furniture Market.
To enter the drawing, retailers may give their business card to an NHFA member service representative in the RRC. Winners will be notified one week after Market.
NHFA will introduce retailers to the many RRC exhibitors who offer iPad applications to help businesses run smoother and more profitably.
"Every day, new technologies are proving valuable tools to help retailers run their businesses," said NHFA's Tim Timmons, senior director of marketing communications and education. "NHFA's mission includes helping retailers access the best solutions, and the RRC is one key way we do that."
Winners of NHFA's iPad drawing will enjoy some free apps as well.
NHFA RRC will also host its free High Point Market Seminar Series, October 22-25, 2011 in the RRC seminar room. Speakers include the venerable Jerry Epperson who will share the latest stats and his observations on the state of the furniture industry; now and into the foreseeable future. Also on hand will be Connie Post and Martin Roberts with their insights on maximizing store potential.
