SARO Grows in Vegas

Linens, accessories and tabletop vendor SARO has nearly doubled its World Market Center showroom space for the Winter 2012 Gift+Home at Las Furniture Vegas Market.

The company has signed a multi-year deal for a more than 4,000 square foot showroom in Building C, Suite C-804.

"We're thrilled to have expanded our Las Vegas showroom by 100 percent to better serve our company's growing customer base," said Kev Kalenderian, president of SARO. "This expansion will give us more space to continue growing into new categories such as home accents, furniture, faux botanicals, fashion accessories, gift items and more. It will enable our buyers to have a more memorable experience, and inspire them to indulge their senses, dress their tables and homes, and adorn themselves."

Costco Increases Q1 Profit

The largest U.S. warehouse club operator sells products from chicken to couches at a discount, to its members who pay annual membership fees. For the first quarter it earned $320 million, or 73 cents per share, compared with $312 million, or 71 cents per share, a year earlier. Net sales rose 13 percent to $21.18 billion, excluding membership fees. The club, which raised membership fees for most US and Canadian members by 10 percent on November 1, said membership fee revenue rose 7.5 percent

Bernie & Phyl's to Open 2 Furniture Stores

Norton, Mass.-based Bernie & Phyl's has purchased two buildings at a former Lexington Furniture site, a 34,000 square foot building and a 5,000 square foot building, where the furniture-store chain plans to open a large showroom along with an upscale €œMetro Living€ concept store in the smaller building.

The stores are expected to open next month. A renovation to the property is planned, including adding a new facade to the exterior, architectural columns, colorful and warm-toned walls, and track lighting to create an elegant a backdrop to the furniture, the company said.

Bermex Renovates High Point Mill

Canadian furniture manufacturer Bermex Group is renovating the former Adams-Millis Hosiery Mill at 400 W. English Rd. in High Point.

At Spring High Point Furniture Market, the building will re-open as "The Factory," when it will house show space for all Bermex brands. Those include Bermex, Bertanie, Dinec, Midi, Jaymar, Jaymar Mattress, Shermag, Liinz, Dezmo and the new D-10 Collection.

Bermex Group Inc. is converting The Factory in conjunction with local designers into four floors of breath-taking loft-style showrooms. 

"Our goal is to use The Factory's history, simplistic beauty and natural resources along with creative trendy design ideas of today to create a unique stage for our products that has never been seen before," said Vice President of Marketing Nancy Villemure.

Lexington Completes Sligh Deal

Full-line furniture vendor Lexington Home Brands has completed its acquisition of Sligh Furniture Company.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sligh is a designer and manufacturer of home office and entertainment furniture, and is one of America€™s longest operating residential furniture companies. Sligh has won seven Pinnacle Awards for outstanding design from the American Society of Furniture Designers. The acquisition is expected to complement Lexington€™s product offering and dealer network.

Lexington, an affiliate of Boca Raton, Fla.-based Sun Capital Partners, is markets and manufactures upscale wood and upholstered furniture. In addition to the Lexington brand, the company's portfolio of licensed national brands includes Tommy Bahama Home, and Henry Link Trading Co.
