Globe Express Launches China Scholarship

By Home Furnishings Business in Community/Charitable Support on December 23, 2011

Logistics provider Globe Express Services has collaborated with three Chinese universities to launch its "GES Future CEO" scholarship program.

On Nov. 11, Nov. 25 and Dec. 9, GES presented GES Future CEO scholarship awards to winners at Dalian Maritime University, Shanghai Maritime University and Nankai University.

Through this program, the company hopes to encourage and support outstanding students who need financial aid to realize their dreams and aspirations. The GES Future CEO annual scholarship fund totals $47,400, which is used to support 100 excellent students. Grants of $16,600 to Nankai University and Dalian Maritime University are matched by the Chinese government, so the universities can generate double sponsorship to develop education. In honor of GES' founder Pierre Y. Abou Khater's personal mission to "provide more opportunities to oriental women," 70 percent of scholarship funding will be granted to female students.

"With this scholarship, we hope to support and encourage the entrepreneurship of university students," said GES CEO Ziad Korban. "We're inspired by the thought that this opportunity could change their lives."

Globe Express Services offers logistics services to companies doing business in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, the Americas and around the world.

Case goods and upholstered furniture vendor Aico presented three annual awards at its recent annual holiday party in Huntington Beach, Calif.

Employee of the Year award was presented to Director of Fabric Merchandising Jacqueline Moss, who has been with Aico for close to five years.

"The essence of this award is in the acronym AICO, which stands for Attitude, Initiative, Commitment, and Outstanding performance," said Aico President Martin Ploy. "Jackie consistently contributes new ideas while enthusiastically leading the charge in the merchandising of AICO's top-of-bed division."

The Spirit of Excellence went to Showroom Coordinator Leo Martinez in recognition of his exemplary efficiency and energy. Martinez travels to each of the Aico showrooms throughout the year to prepare the showrooms and set up the product. He has been with AICO for almost seven years.

"Leo plays a vital role in the staging of our showrooms," said Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Chuck Reilly. "He is a true leader, and valuable asset to the company."

The Partner in Progress award was presented to actress and artist Jane Seymour in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the design and branding of the collections within the Michael Amini and Jane Seymour, A Design Collaboration. "She has been an amazing partner, and I look forward to a long and lasting union. ... All three of these awards were well deserved, and I am honored to have such a committed team behind me."
